ABOUT OUR BAGS

Steel Pony luggage is made from 13oz ripstop, waterproofed, steel grey canvas, heavy-duty webbing, heavy-duty plastic clips and is sewn together with cotton coated polyester thread which swells into the stitch holes. Extensive road testing has proven the bags to be water resistant and dust proof. The canvas is rated as waterproof, however continuing to ride for extended periods in heavy rain may cause the contents to become damp. They have proven to be waterproof in heavy downpours of short duration and when dropped in water crossings.

All anchor points are re-enforced on the inside of attachment points. This reduces the chance of ripping a hole in the canvas. The seams are double sewn before the binding is sewn on.

Heavy-duty web straps secure the bags across the seat and should be adjusted to hold the bags evenly on each side of the bike.  These straps come standard with side release clips. 

If heat from the bike’s muffler is a concern the bags can be supplied with a detachable heat resistant silicon mat as a special order. 

Stainless steel rings are fitted at the bottom of the panniers on the front and back. Reuseable cable ties are supplied to attach these rings to the bike frame, not the swingarm. These attachments are to stop the panniers moving forward or backward and stop them "flapping" out from the bike when negotiating whoops and potholes. If the bike is dropped at speed the cable ties are meant to break before the metal ring pulls off or tears the panniers. Cable ties can be joined together if a long attachment is required.

Bottle bags are attached on both side panels of the Murchison and Gascoyne panniers. Most 1.5L water bottles will fit into the bottle bags. 

Both Murchison and Gascoyne panniers have an internal waterproof pocket that holds a plastic stiffener.  This pocket has a Velcro opening to allow for removal of the stiffener or storage of maps/paperwork etc. 

Simpson Tank Panniers are supplied with a rubber mat, velcroed to the back of the bags, to prevent scratching of your bike’s tank.  They are also supplied with rubber strips to protect the tank from the straps that go over it.  These smaller bags can also be used as throw over seat panniers on smaller dirt bikes.
